Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible. -Frank Zappa
I have only had three lessons so far with Emily, but I have really enjoyed it! I have learned so much in the short amount of time I have spent with Emily. She is a fabulous teacher and I feel that she does a great job with using certain techniques that benefit me, personally, based on how I learn and play. -Tricia S.
I love taking lessons with James at Portage Music Lessons. I always feel as if the lessons are tailored exactly to my learning style and to help me progress at a good rate. At the end of each lesson I have a clear idea of what I need to work on for next week and techniques that will help me reach my goals. I definitely look forward to my lesson each week. -Rance R.
Emily is an awesome teacher! She is very knowledgeable, talented, and easy to work with. She makes you feel at ease & encourages you to excel in your craft. I feel more comfortable and confident with every lesson! -Brittany A.
As the parent of a Portage Music Lessons student, I can not say enough about their programs! My seven-year-old son wanted to learn the guitar, but I was hesitant. His teacher, James, appeased all of my fears and lent him an electric guitar to make sure he enjoyed the instrument. He has been more than flexible with our crazy schedule, whether working around soccer, wrestling or various vacations. One year later and my son is playing a variety of music including country, the blues and classic rock, performed in his elementary school talent show, and is truly embracing a musical talent all due to Portage Music Lessons. -Erin M.
My 9 year old son has been taking piano with Julia for the past 9 months and just loves it. Julia has worked with him on important finger work, but also takes into account the pieces of music he wants to learn to play. From my parent perspective, Portage Music Lessons has been great to work with, very professional and also nicely accommodating. We are looking forward to the upcoming recital! -Jennifer R.
Lessons with John have been incredibly impactful with my teenage son. John is working on both guitar and piano in a one hour session. Not only is John incredibly knowledgeable in theory and the diversity of both instruments, his relatability to a teenager and understanding on how to make music joyful, fun and exciting has been the key to Grant’s enjoyment. I have seen tremendous progress and believe that we are on track to a lifetime of musical enjoyment and accomplishment in both instruments.-Audrey B.
Henry has been an incredible teacher. The first lesson, he came in and said “ok, what do you want to learn? What music do you love?” And that’s what we work on. I bring up new songs and he takes those songs as an opportunity to learn more about guitar and theory behind it instead of the other way around. -Paul G.
Portage Music is a great place to learn an instrument. The teachers are super friendly and beyond knowledgeable with their specialties. I highly recommend giving them a try and you won't be disappointed. I look forward to my lessons and learning something new each week! -Craig L.
Henry is very friendly and very knowledgeable about all things bass and how to learn them. Whether you're a beginner or a great player, he will teach you techniques that would have taken years by yourself. I'm doing things in my band now that I wouldn't be doing without having taken lessons with him, and I'm a much better player overall because of him.-Steve S.
